Time to Results
/ The Challenge
Cara had been doing makeup for eight years and was genuinely exceptional at her craft. She was also fully booked, burned out, and charging rates that hadn't changed since year two. Her Instagram had 4,200 followers but wasn't converting. She was getting inquiries from budget brides when she wanted to be working with editorial clients and high-end weddings. The work was there. The positioning wasn't.

/ Our Approach
We repositioned Cara not as a makeup artist for hire, but as a luxury beauty experience. That meant a complete audit of her pricing, her portfolio presentation, her inquiry process, and her content strategy. We identified the 20% of her work that represented 80% of her desired clientele and built her entire brand around those projects — letting the rest quietly fall away.
01
The Underpricing Trap
Cara's rates were a reflection of her confidence, not her skill. She had been afraid to raise prices because she feared losing clients — not realizing that the clients she feared losing were exactly the ones she needed to outgrow. Our first conversation was about permission: permission to charge what her work was actually worth.
02
Portfolio as Positioning
We audited Cara's portfolio and made a difficult recommendation: remove 60% of it. The work that remained was extraordinary — editorial, precise, transformative. The work we removed was competent but generic. A portfolio that shows everything says nothing. Cara's new portfolio said exactly one thing: this is what luxury looks like.
03
Content That Attracts the Right Client
The new content strategy was built around a simple filter: would my ideal client see this and feel seen? Every post was evaluated against that question. Behind-the-scenes content from editorial shoots. Process videos that communicated craft and intentionality. Client testimonials from the weddings she was proudest of. The algorithm rewarded it — but more importantly, the right clients found her.
/ The Outcome
Within five months, Cara had raised her rates by 60% and was still fully booked. Her Instagram following grew to 11,800 with a dramatically higher engagement rate. She booked her first editorial shoot for a regional magazine and secured two luxury wedding venue partnerships that now send her referrals exclusively.
I used to feel guilty charging what I charge now. True North helped me see that undercharging wasn't humility — it was self-sabotage. I've never felt more aligned with my work.
